Like you, I’d rather be flying. Let’s keep you in that cockpit.
FAA medical exams in Bozeman & Billings, Montana from Dr. Matthew Hartman: an AME who's also a pilotFrom pilot to pilot
I began flying before I became a physician. Born into a family of pilots, I’m now an active pilot, aircraft owner, and operator myself. I know just how high the stakes are for your FAA medical exam.
Fly in, fly out
Your flight physical should make your life easier, not harder. With online scheduling and two Montana locations right on the field, you can get your medical exam done fast, so you can get back in the air.
Preparation → certification
I want you to walk out with your medical certificate in hand. The best way to get there is a quick call before your exam, so we can talk through any concerns.
Here for the long haul
While most AMEs have retired (or are about to), I've got decades left in me. You can fly easy, knowing you have long-term stability with the last AME you’ll ever need to find.
Worried about your medical?
I get it. I fly, too.You aren’t the only pilot whose blood pressure jumps a few points just thinking about your FAA exam. And you aren’t the only one who calls “asking for a friend” with a potential red flag.
Let’s discuss all this anonymously (we can drop the friend ruse) on a free phone call before your exam. We’ll walk through whatever’s worrying you, and I’ll do whatever I can to advocate on your behalf.
Remember, I don’t work for the FAA. I work for you. I’ll do everything I can to make sure you walk in my door with confidence, and walk out with your certification.

Meet your montana AMEDr. Matthew Hartman
▸ Senior Aviation Medical Examiner
▸ Practicing hospital physician
▸ Active pilot and aircraft owner
▸ 700+ pilots certified since 2021
I grew up in Montana with roots in the (big) sky. Among other pilots in my family, my father was a crop duster before he passed in a flying accident in 2024. I promised him I’d become an AME. Promise kept.
As both an active physician and a proud pilot myself, I find serving fellow pilots to be deeply fulfilling. It’s my honor to help pilots get, keep, or reinstate their medical certificates, so they can continue doing what they love.
The people I’ve met through this work have been the real reward. As they say, the only thing more fun than flying is talking about flying. I can’t wait to hear your stories — and help you tell more of them.
